When Do I Start Thinking About My Eco Bling?

    Solar bling!

You may rate the latest eco gadget as a must for your new house but technology should be quite a long way down your list of things to do. Spending time on achieving the right design and specification will pay dividends further down the line. If you insulate it as highly as you possibly can, seal it as best you can and mechanically ventilate it with the most efficient system you can find, then the energy requirement of your house should be a lot less than if you hadn’t followed that process. Plus, none of these items should cost you a lot of money. They’re all relatively small cost items. Once you’ve determined your energy needs this way, then you could look at what’s the best, most efficient way to produce that.

  • Why Size Matters!

When you’re starting to think about the house you’re going to build, there is a temptation to go for the biggest you can afford. Perhaps your architect has opened your eyes to what you could have or maybe your heart is set on the maximum amount of floor space possible. However, unless your funds are flexible, it’s important to bring it all back to the budget.

If you want to build your house the right way, with the right products, then the only way to get back on track if you go over budget is to reduce the floor area. Most people want the maximum amount of floor space for their money and therefore they have to compromise and it’s normally the fitting out or quality of the products that go into the building.

Be very careful about how big you build your house.
